• In verse 17 the hardness of heart manifested in the people is traced back to an act of God. “Why hast Thou made us to err...?” Was this justified? Clearly it was, for just that was the original message given to Isaiah, in verses 9 and 10 of chapter 6. What had happened to them was in principle the same as had happened to Pharaoh.
