• The figure used in verse 7 indicates that this deliverance will be a “birth” which takes place in a way quite unexpected. So here we have Isaiah alluding to that great work of the Spirit of God, which is described more fully in Ezekiel 36:22-33, to which the Lord Jesus referred when He spoke to Nicodemus of being born “of water and of the Spirit”.
