NOVEMBER 10
Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed . . . and that thou wouldest keep me from evil.
1 Chron. 4:10
10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested. (1 Chronicles 4:10)
I pray . . . that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
John 17:15
15
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (John 17:15)
The first verse is a prayer of Jabez whose name means “sorrowful.” The second is a prayer of the Lord Jesus to His Father on behalf of all who believe in Him. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, part of that prayer was, “Deliver us from evil.” In our day it is VERY important to ask the Lord to keep us.
