City lying on the borders of Judah and Benjamin, the former name of which was KIRJATH-BAAL (Josh. 15:6060Kirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, and Rabbah; two cities with their villages: (Joshua 15:60); Josh. 18:1414And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that lieth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjath-baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this was the west quarter. (Joshua 18:14)). It was one of the four cities included in the compact made with Gibeon. The ark was removed to the hill of the city and remained there many years, see ABINADAB (Josh. 9:1717And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.
