Was known and used for plaster and cement work (Deut. 27:2²And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over Jordan unto the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster: (Deuteronomy 27:2); Isa. 33:12¹²And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. (Isaiah 33:12); Amos 2:1¹Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: (Amos 2:1)).

The use of this material was evidently understood by the Israelites. Isaiah 33:12¹²And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. (Isaiah 33:12) speaks of the “burnings of lime”; and in Amos 2:1¹Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: (Amos 2:1) judgment is pronounced upon Moab because of having “burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime.”
