There need be no hesitation in accepting the common version, and in rejecting "shall perish with the laying down of the sword," for which there is absolutely no reason. The true sense is "by or with the sword." It is a common and correct translation of such phrases, as may be seen in {vi 30734;30741;30745;30802;30860-30861;30897;30937;30963;30992;31033;31039}{/vi}; to quote from but one book of the New Testament.
