Moriah, Mount

2 Chronicles 3:1
Listen from:
The mount on which the temple was built; once only is it thus designated (2 Chron. 3:11Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. (2 Chronicles 3:1)). It was the place previously occupied by the threshing floor of Araunah. Its site is now very generally believed to be on the S.E. of Jerusalem, where there is a large plain, called the “temple area,” formed by stones being built into the sides of the rock. It is also called the “mosque enclosure,” because the mosque of Omar is built thereon.
