An expression which, besides its ordinary signification, was often used when a man was without his outside mantle or cloak (1 Sam. 19:2424And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets? (1 Samuel 19:24); Isa. 20:22At the same time spake the Lord by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. (Isaiah 20:2); John 21:77Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord.
