Oh! what a Savior is Jesus the Lord,

Well might His name by His saints be adored!

He has redeemed them from hell by His blood,

Saved them forever, and brought them to God.
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” (Revelation 5:9)
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18)

Now in the glory He waits to impart

Peace to the conscience and joy to the heart —

Waits to be gracious, to pardon and heal

All who their sin and their wretchedness feel.
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
“And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” (Isaiah 30:18)
“And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.” (Nehemiah 9:17)
“And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.” (John 16:22)

Thousands have fled to His spear-piercèd side,

Welcome they all have been, none are denied;

Weary and laden, they all have been blest,

Joyfully now in the Savior they rest.
“But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.” (John 19:34)
“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)
