"Stricken, smitten and afflicted,"
 
See Him dying on the tree!
 
’Tis the Christ by man rejected!
 
Yes, my soul, ’tis He, ’tis He!
 
Mark the sacrifice appointed!
 
See who bears the awful load!
 
’Tis the Word, ’tis God’s Anointed,
 
Son of Man and Son of God.
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.” (Isaiah 53:4)
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53:3)
“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” (John 1:11)

Here we have a firm foundation;
 
Here’s the refuge of the lost;
 
Christ’s the Rock of our salvation — 
 
His the name of which we boast.
 
Lamb of God! for sinners wounded — 
 
Sacrifice to cancel guilt,
 
None shall ever be confounded
 
Who on Thee their hope have built.
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” (Matthew 7:24-25)
“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.” (Hebrews 6:18)
