209. Our Times Are in Thy Hand
S.M.
by W.F. Lloyd, 1835
Our times are in Thy hand,
Father, we wish them there;
Our life, our soul, our all, we leave
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6)
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Our times are in Thy hand,
Pleasing or painful, dark or bright,
As best may seem to Thee.
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
Our times are in Thy hand,
Why should we doubt or fear?
A Father’s hand will never cause
His child a needless tear.
“Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.” (Hebrews 12:11)
Our times are in Thy hand,
The hand our many sins had pierced
Is now our Guard and Guide.
“But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness.” (1 Corinthians 1:23)
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
Our times are in Thy hand,
Nor can that hand be stretched in vain,
Our times are in Thy hand;
We’d always trust in Thee,
Till we have left this weary land,
