209. Our Times Are in Thy Hand
S.M.
by W.F. Lloyd, 1835
Our times are in Thy hand,
Father, we wish them there;
Our life, our soul, our all, we leave
Our times are in Thy hand,
Pleasing or painful, dark or bright,
As best may seem to Thee.
Our times are in Thy hand,
Why should we doubt or fear?
A Father’s hand will never cause
His child a needless tear.
Our times are in Thy hand,
The hand our many sins had pierced
Is now our Guard and Guide.
“But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness.” (1 Corinthians 1:23)
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)
“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.” (Psalm 121:3)
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” (Psalm 32:8)
Our times are in Thy hand,
Nor can that hand be stretched in vain,
“Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.” (1 John 5:1)
Our times are in Thy hand;
We’d always trust in Thee,
Till we have left this weary land,
“And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.” (Isaiah 32:2)
“Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17:24)
