91. Oh What a Debt We Owe

S.M.
by G.V. Wigram
1
Oh what a debt we owe

To Him who shed His blood,

And cleansed our souls, and gave us power

To stand before His God.
2
Savior and Lord! we own

The riches of Thy grace;

For we can call Thy God, our God —

Can bow before His face.
“Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17)
3
Thy Father, too, above,

We worship as our own,

Who gave with Thee the Spirit’s cry,

To us His sons foreknown.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” (Galatians 4:6)
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:14-15)
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29)
