The Hebrew signifies literally “a heap or collection.” Being named with Arcturus and Orion, it doubtless refers to the group of stars that still bear the name Pleiades (Job 9:99Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south. (Job 9:9); Job 38:3131Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? (Job 38:31)). The same Hebrew word is translated SEVEN STARS in Amos 5:88Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name: (Amos 5:8). There are many stars in the group, but seven are visible to the naked eye. Job 38:3131Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? (Job 38:31) is better translated, “Canst thou fasten the bands of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?”
