The status of those who hold the first place, as rulers among men (
Titus 3:1

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, (Titus 3:1)
); but the word especially refers to the spiritual high powers in the unseen world, whether good or bad. They were created by the Lord, and He is head of them all (
col. 1:16

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:16)

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: (Colossians 2:10)
). Some fell from the position of trust given them: they kept not their first estate or principality (
Jude 6

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 6)
). Others contend against the heavenly position of the saints (
Eph. 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)
). The Lord “spoiled” principalities on the cross (
col. 2:15

And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:15)
); and at His resurrection He was exalted by God far above all such created powers (

Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: (Ephesians 1:21)
