(for a consul). A Roman official, beneath a consul, who exercised authority in a province. Appointed by the senate (Acts 13:7; 19:38⁷Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God. (Acts 13:7)
