oppress.
in the gate.That is, in the court of justice, which, as we have already seen, was held at the gates of cities in the East.
 This is a warning word to those who sit in the place of judgment, to which the gate refers. If the ways of justice are perverted, let him who renders a false and oppressive sentence, remember that the supreme Judge is looking on. (Proverbs Twenty-Two by H.A. Ironside)
