GEN 37:23-24
23
And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colors that was on him;
24
And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. (Genesis 37:23‑24)
When Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat . . . and they took him, and cast him into a pit.

Some reception! We can perhaps put ourselves in Joseph’s position: a long journey by foot and nervous about being alone with nine older brothers who didn’t like him. He enters their camp and rather than, “Hello! How’s it going, Joseph? Good to see you!” they rip off his coat of many pieces and drop him into a hole in the ground. Notice something here? This is what makes Joseph such a wonderful picture of the Lord. He never complains or fights back. Meekness and gentleness are such wonderful characteristics to have.
