Rest

Come ye souls by sin afflicted,
Bowed with contrite sorrow down;
By the Word of God convicted,
Through the cross behold the crown.
Look to Jesus;
Mercy flows through Him alone.
Take His easy yoke, and wear it;
Love will make obedience sweet;
Christ will be your strength to bear it
And the light to guide your feet
Safe to glory,
Where His ransomed captives meet.
Sweet as home to pilgrims weary,
Light to newly opened eyes,
Or fresh springs in deserts dreary,
Is the rest the cross supplies:
All who taste it,
Shall to rest immortal rise.
Rest, full fruit of grace's story;
Rest from sin's oppressive thrall;
Rest in God's eternal glory;
Rest for pardoned sinners all.
Faith believes it;
Hope perceives it;
Love Both it with joy forestall.
