(peaceful). For “to Shalem” (Gen. 33:18¹⁸And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city. (Genesis 33:18)), read “in peace to.”

Concise Bible Dictionary:

This is judged to be not a proper name, but that the passage should read, Jacob came “safely” to the city of Shechem (Gen. 33:18¹⁸And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city. (Genesis 33:18)). The RV has “came in peace.”
