70. Sovereign Grace O'er Sin Abounding
8,7.
by G. Horne; v. 1, J. Kent, 1827
Sovereign grace o’er sin abounding:
Ransomed souls the tidings swell!
’Tis a deep that knows no sounding;
Who its length or breadth can tell?
“Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” (Romans 5:20)
“That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:7)
Saved by Christ, we’re free forever,
This the Spirit’s voice declares!
Death, nor life, nor aught can sever
Jesus from the chosen heirs.
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” (Romans 8:16)
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
Souls above, in His communion,
Now with Him from conflict rest,
While below, with Christ in union,
We can sing how saints are blest.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)
“Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.” (1 John 4:13)
