Tekoite

Designation of Ikkesh, father of Ira, one of David’s mighty men (2 Sam. 23:26²⁶Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, (2 Samuel 23:26); 1 Chron. 11:28²⁸Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite, (1 Chronicles 11:28); 1 Chron. 27:9⁹The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. (1 Chronicles 27:9)). The Tekoites were inhabitants of Tekoa: they helped to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, but “their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord” (Neh. 3:5, 27⁵And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their Lord. (Nehemiah 3:5)
²⁷After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lieth out, even unto the wall of Ophel. (Nehemiah 3:27)).
