(gift). A payment made as a token of submission, or for sake of peace, or in pursuance of treaty (Gen. 49:15¹⁵And he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant unto tribute. (Genesis 49:15)). The head-tax of half a shekel paid annually by Jews for the support of the temple service (Ex. 30:13¹³This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord. (Exodus 30:13)).
