As we noted yesterday, Luke portrays the dependence of the Lord Jesus as a man in the path of faith and service. Here are three more times we have Him in prayer in Luke’s Gospel: At His Transfiguration: “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, He took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray” (9:28). To encourage His disciples to learn to pray: “And it came to pass, that, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said unto Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples” (11:1). As the hour of His greatest trial (the cross) approached: “And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed” (22:41). If the Lord Jesus as the perfect man could feel the need of prayer, how much for you and me. I am reminded of the verse, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow His steps” (1 Peter 2:21).
