Holding

It has been rightly said, that it is good to hold tightly to what is eternal and loosely to what is temporal. Yet how often it seems to be the reverse. We seem more concerned with our worldly possessions and spend much valuable time seeking them, and forget that they are only transient and passing at best. The Apostle Paul put it in perspective when he wrote, “We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

That is not to say that we don’t value the temporal things that God has entrusted to us for this life. But we need to always remember that those things that we have in Christ are the things of real value and what are ours for eternity. Unlike our earthly goods we can never lose those blessings that are ours in Christ. No wonder Paul said, “This one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
