The Pilgrim Pathway “Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country” (Numbers 20:17). This was the request of the Israelites when they reached the borders of Edom. There is a great parallel for our own pathways. See what conditions were laid out: “We will not … ” “pass through the fields” (worldly pleasures); “or through the vineyards” (worldly joy); “neither will we drink of the water of the wells” (worldly refreshment). “We will go … ” “by the king’s high way” (God’s path). “We will not … ” “turn to the right hand nor to the left” (no distractions). “Until … ” “we have passed thy borders.” (We are in the world only for a while, on our way to heaven).
