Finished

“And they crucified Him, and parted His garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted My garments among them, and upon My vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched Him there” (Matthew 27:35-36).

The soldiers had finished their work not knowing they had fulfilled prophecies made a thousand years before Christ’s birth.

The act of parting His garments by lots: “They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture” (Psalm 22:18);

Not breaking any of His bones: “He keepeth all His bones: not one of them is broken” (Psalm 34:20).

Piercing His hands, His feet and side: “They shall look upon Me whom they have pierced” (Zachariah 12:10).

These were all foretold centuries before this event. Jesus knew all this must be done when He said, “I thirst” (Psalm 22:15). The sacrifice of the holy Lamb of God was completed and He cried out “It is finished” (John 19:30).

Let’s remember Him today, and that great work that was finished to the glory of God and for our eternal blessing.
