Dear Young Christian:

A few days ago, I was at a Christian camp for families in the State of Michigan. While there, I noticed this saying on the wall of one of the buildings.

God Loves Us,

Not Because We Are Lovable,

But Because He Is Love!

It got my attention and made me thankful for the verse that reminds us, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Divine love is very different than natural love, in that natural love looks for something lovable in its object, and to a great degree is dependent on a response from its object. However, divine love loves in spite of the object, and loves consistently, even when there is no response. None of us can say that we are unloved. If you feel that way any time during this week, just look up and remember His own words, “Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Your Christian Friend,

Jim Hyland

We would love to hear from you.
