The Cost
“Buy the truth, and sell it not” (Proverbs 23:23).
What does it cost you to walk according to the truth of the Bible? It has been often said that while the gospel is free, it costs us something to hold fast to the truth of Scripture.
For many of us it may be reproach and misunderstanding among our friends and perhaps even our family. Sometimes it is not just reproach from the unsaved, but from other believers who do not have the same understanding or desire to obey the Word of God. However, Many of our fellow Christians pay the price for their faithfulness to the Lord with imprisonment, torture, and death. The Bible exhorts us, “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body” (Hebrews 13:3). Many are paying the ultimate price and buying the truth at great cost. For them the promise is, “be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).
