A Good Commendation
“The elder unto the well-beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth … . For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth” (3 John verses 1, 3).
Wouldn’t we all like a commendation like that? When others give an account of your actions what do they say? Can they give a good report? Can they testify that we are walking according to the Word of God and living a godly life?
Here is what it says about Timothy: “Well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium” (Acts 16:2).
Of Apelles we read, “approved in Christ” (Romans 16:10).
Of course, our first motivation should be the Lord’s approval. Paul said, “Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9). However, we further read, “For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men” (Romans 14:18).
