Dear Young Christian,

I am writing this letter from Denver Colorado, and on the wall next to me there is a motto with the following advice:

BEGIN EACH DAY

WITH A GRATEFUL HEART!

It reminds me of the verse, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name” (Psalm 100:4). Or, we could paraphrase it, “Begin each new day with thanksgiving.”

If we begin our days this way, we will have a much happier day and then can also end them with that same thankfulness and a note of praise from our hearts. We don’t just have a lot to be thankful for, we have everything to be thankful for. Growing up, we used to sing a chorus that went something like this:

Thank Him in the morning,
Thank Him in the noontime,
Thank Him when the sun goes down.

Thank Him always.
