Prayer

Thanksgiving

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).

We thank a person for some benefit or gift that they have bestowed upon us, and when we think of what we have from God through Christ, we ought to be the most thankful people on the face of the earth. Consider today not only what our God has done for us, but what He is doing in our life every day, and also what is ahead in that future day of glory when we arrive at the Father’s house.

The writer of Psalm 116, in reviewing the multitude of the Lord’s benefits, raised the following question: “What shall I render unto the Lord for all His benefits toward me?” (verse 12). Later in the Psalm, he answers his own question: “I will offer to Thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord” (verse 17). As we consider all His marvelous gifts, what will the response of our hearts be today?

“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2).
