Love “I love the Lord, because…” (Psalm 116:1). What is it that draws out our hearts’ affections as we meditate on the Lord’s person and work on another “Lord’s day” (Revelation 1:10)? Here are just two examples: “We love Him, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). “Because of the savor of Thy good ointments Thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love Thee…We will remember Thy love” (Song of Solomon 1:3-4). Yes, it is His love combined with His beauties and glories that causes our love to ignite and to set ablaze our hearts’ affections. As we remember the Lord in the breaking of bread, as we sing hymns of His person and work, as we read our Bibles and consider the work of Calvary, as we think of where He is now, all He is doing for us at the right hand of God, and all that is ahead in the future day of glory, how can we not have enlarged affections for our precious Savior and Lord?
