Jenny Lind The acclaimed singer, Jenny Lind, was born in Sweden in 1820. At seventeen she came to England from her native land and very quickly became known as “The Swedish Nightingale.” She received many accolades and honors, not only from Queen Victoria, but from many of the nobility and heads of state in Europe. However, her career was short lived, as she realized that it was causing her to neglect her Bible and the God and Savior she had come to know and love. When asked why she had given up her singing at the height of her popularity, she pointed to her Bible and said, “When every day made me think less of this, what else could I do.” On her grave stone in Great Malvern Cemetery are inscribed the words, “I know that my Redeemer liveth.” Jenny Lind realized that there was more to life than a flash of worldly pomp and glory. She had come to know the secret of the Lord’s own words, “And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent” (John 17:3). This is what really counts for this life and certainly for the next. Which life are you living in view of?
