No Repay

Here is an interesting statement that I saw on a billboard the other day:

You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.

It reminded me of the Lord’s exhortation when he was in the house of a certain Pharisee. He said, “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just” (Luke 14:13-14).

So often our motives for doing something for others is selfish. We do it because we hope to get something for ourselvessome reward, verbal or temporal; a return invitation; or some recognition that we think will put us in good standing with others.

But let’s learn to do it for the Lord’s commendation and approval. Paul said, “We labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9).
