“All things are delivered unto Me of My Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him” (Matthew 11:27).
There are some things in Scripture that are impossible for us to understand, and this is one of them. The Lord Jesus is both God and man in one person, and as human beings, we cannot understand this. Only God the Father understands fully the way that God and man are united in one person in the Lord Jesus; we can accept it and believe it, but we cannot understand it.
However, we could not know God the Father either, but when the Lord Jesus came into this world, He revealed God the Father. He could say, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). If we are truly saved, we know God the Father in a way that no one knew Him before the Lord Jesus came into this world as a man. The Lord Jesus revealed God the Father as a God of light, and a God of love. Those two things were brought together at the cross, for God’s holy nature demanded that sin be punished, but God’s love laid that punishment on His Son, so that we did not have to bear it.
You and I live in a very privileged time in the history of this world, for we know many things about God that were not known before this day of God’s grace.
