“And the women also…prepared spices and ointment, and…very early in the morning…came unto the sepulchre…and they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre” (Luke 23:55-56;24:1-2).
These women really loved the Lord Jesus, and were horrified when He was taken and crucified. When He died and was buried, they wanted to do their very best for Him, and although spices were expensive in those days, they bought some in order to give Him what they considered a proper burial.
However, God had ordered otherwise, and the Lord Jesus Himself had told these women that He would rise again. When the women reached the tomb, they found the stone rolled away, and the tomb empty. What a wonderful ending to all their sorrow! The Lord had risen, as He said He would! They did not need those spices!
