“He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
There are many people today who believe in a general way that the Lord Jesus died to put away sins, and that He suffered for the sins of this world. However, it is important to realize, in an individual way, that He suffered for OUR sins, and that it was for our sins that He bore the punishment of God. We must realize that we are not only sinners, but lost sinners, and that we can do nothing to help ourselves. Then we realize that it was for US that He suffered and died, and that He wants to be our Savior.
Our verse for today is very personal and direct, and shows us that we need a Savior. We cannot simply believe that the Lord Jesus suffered and died in a general way, but rather that He died for you and me personally.
