“He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding” (Proverbs 15:32).

Some time ago a man made this comment in a newspaper—“It is dangerous to point out to people that they are wrong. When was the last time someone thanked you for pointing out that he or she was in the wrong?” Usually, if we point out to someone that he or she is wrong about something, they will defend themselves rather than learning from the experience.

However, the Word of God tells us many times that wise men and women will accept correction and learn from it, instead of reacting against it. Four times in this one chapter (Proverbs 15) we are told to accept reproof.

The next time someone corrects you, and especially if that person knows more than you do, instead of automatically defending yourself, ask yourself, “Can I turn this into a chance to learn something?”
