Absalom.
• Absalom’s mother was named Maachah (2 Sam. 3:3); it was natural that this name should be perpetuated in the family. This Maachah the mother of Abijam must herself have been the granddaughter of Absalom according to the evidence of 2 Chronicles 13:2. Here in 1 Kings 15:10 Maachah is called the mother of Asa, Abijam’s son, according to the Jewish custom, although she was his grandmother.
