The correction here is important, for the ordinary text is almost senseless, "to the brethren and to strangers." For it conveys the notion of two objects given, "to the brethren and to strangers." The true text, as attested by the best MSS. It is really "toward the brethren, and that, strangers," touto (that) instead of the second eis tous. Gaius, or Caius, was thus open-hearted toward the preaching or teaching brethren, and this if strangers; and John would have him go on in that faithful work of love.
