means literally “against law,” but is best described in Jude 44For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4), “Turning the grace of God into lasciviousness,” that is, turning the liberty of grace into the license of the flesh. It is a characteristic sin of the last days. Great head knowledge with but little exercise of heart and conscience is very apt to produce it.
