Probably the same as the Asherites, of the tribe of Asher, who were among the subjects of Ishbosheth (2 Sam. 2:99And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel. (2 Samuel 2:9)). In “the company of the Ashurites” in Ezekiel 27:66Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim. (Ezekiel 27:6), it is doubtful whether a proper name is intended, it is translated variously (see margin).
