Boyd’s Bible Dictionary
:
(
robe
of
Shinar
). A richly
embroidered
robe worn in
Babylon
and prized by other peoples (
Josh. 7:21
21
When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. (Joshua 7:21)
).
From
Manners and Customs of the Bible
:
Job 27:16
16
Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay; (Job 27:16)
. Though he heap up
silver
as
the
dust
, and prepare
raiment
as the clay.
The Eastern people
have
always reckoned collections of raiment among their choice treasures, and estimate them in the accounts of their wealth along
with
gold
and silver.
This
is seen in the text, and is
also
to be found in the injunction of the
Saviour
in
Matthew 6:19,
19
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matthew 6:19)
where, in speaking of the uncertain character of worldly wealth, he refers to the ravages of the
moth
upon the treasures of raiment. So
Paul
in his address at
Miletus
to the
elders
of
Ephesus
, says, “I have coveted no
man
’s silver, or gold, or
apparel
” (
Acts 20:33
33
I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. (Acts 20:33)
). He also refers to the value of
garments
in
1 Timothy 2:9,
9
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; (1 Timothy 2:9)
where he speaks of “costly array.”
James
likewise says in his
epistle
,
James 5:2,
2
Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. (James 5:2)
“Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.”

Genesis 45:22
22
To all of them he gave each man changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment. (Genesis 45:22)
