(going over). The word in Numbers 24:4,16⁴He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: (Numbers 24:4)
¹⁶He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: (Numbers 24:16), is an interjection, without a Hebrew equivalent. In Acts 10:10; 11:5; 22:17¹⁰And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, (Acts 10:10)

The word is ἔκστασις, “ecstasy,” in which, as it were, the mind is carried beyond the body. It is translated “astonishment” in Mark 5:42⁴²And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. (Mark 5:42); and “amazement” in Acts 3:10¹⁰And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. (Acts 3:10). The same word is used in the LXX for the deep sleep of Adam and of Abram (Gen. 2:21²¹And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; (Genesis 2:21); Gen. 15:12¹²And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
