Job asked that if he had done wickedly cockle might grow instead of barley; in the margin it reads “noisome weeds” (Job 31:4040Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended. (Job 31:40)). Some suppose the darnel is alluded to, as in Matthew 13:2525But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. (Matthew 13:25).
