 If Belshazzar, therefore, typified the impiety that dared to lift itself up against the Lord of heaven, Darius sets forth the exaltation of man, and indeed, the substitution of man for God, as an object of worship. This is by no means altered by the fact that he was betrayed into taking this position, or that he himself was a man of an amiable character; {v.9} for it is still true that he signed the decree, {v.7} that whosoever should ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, save of himself, should be cast into the den of lions (Dan. 6:7). It is not what he was in himself, but what he did, that contains the prophetical instruction. (Daniel 6 by E. Dennett)

It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, who should be in all the kingdom;
