• The chief point to observe is that there was not a spirit of obedience in the people, and this they lacked because there was no faith in God....Numbers 13 gives the fact when God warranted Moses to send the spies; Deuteronomy supplies the motives which wrought in the people to desire them. For he had himself told them to go up into the land; but they begged spies to search it first. The wish emanated neither from God nor His servant but from the people. (“Deuteronomy 1” by W. Kelly)
