[Elijah] was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly.
Elijah suffered from discouragement, depression, even thoughts of wanting to die. And yet there were dramatic results when he prayed. What was the power that caused his prayers to be answered? First, he prayed earnestly - he really meant it. Second, He claimed promises of God and prayed according to God’s will for the glory of God. Third, he wasn’t seeking his own comfort - the results of his prayer affected his life-style too. Yes, Elijah was very human. He was also very much in touch with God’s will.
