Man’s heart has not changed throughout the centuries. It is not unusual to find those who value spiritual things, and who may even accept the prayers of another. The vast majority of Americans believe in a supreme being; sadly, that being is very often a god of their own making — in effect, intellectual idolatry. (The Enemies Thwarted - Ezra 6:1-13 by N. Simon)
And from the language employed, it can scarcely be doubted that Darius himself had some knowledge of "the God of heaven," for he speaks of Him as causing "His name to dwell there." We see God disposing his heart in favor of His people and of the work of building His house. (The Book of Ezra: Restoration From Babylon: Ezra 6:1-15 by E. Dennett)
