Josh. 6:1‑21:45• 1Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor.
3And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
6{i}And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, Carry the ark of the covenant, and seven priests shall carry seven blast-trumpets before the ark of Jehovah.{/i}
7{i}And he said to the people, Pass on, go round the city, and they that are armed shall pass on before the ark of Jehovah{/i}.
8And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before Jehovah, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah followed them.
9And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
10And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
11So the ark of Jehovah compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
12{i}And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests carried the ark of Jehovah.{/i}
13{i}And the seven priests carrying the seven blast-trumpets before the ark of Jehovah went on and blew continually with the trumpets; and the armed men went before them, and the rearguard went after the ark of Jehovah; they blew with the trumpets in marching.{/i}
14{i}And on the second day they went round the city once, and returned into the camp. So they did six days.{/i}
15{i}And it was so that on the seventh day they rose early, about the morning-dawn, and went round the city after the same manner seven times; only on that day they went round the city seven times.{/i}
16And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.
17{i}And the city shall be accursed, it and all that is in it, to Jehovah; only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.{/i}
18And ye, in any wise, keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto Jehovah: they shall come into the treasury of Jehovah.
20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
22But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23{i}And the young men, the spies, went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had: all her kindred did they bring out, and they left them outside the camp of Israel{/i}.
24And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah.
25And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26And Joshua adjured them at the time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates.
27So Jehovah was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.
1{i}But the children of Israel committed unfaithfulness in that which had been brought under the curse:{/i} Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the children of Israel.
2Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. {i}And the men went up and spied out Ai.{/i}
3And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people labour thither; for they are but few.
4So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
5{i}And{/i} the men of Ai smote of them about thirty-six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.
6And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Jehovah until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads.
7And Joshua said, Alas! O Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of Jordan!
8O Jehovah, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies!
9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
10And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?
11Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.
12Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed. {i}I will no more be with you, except ye destroy the accursed thing from your midst.{/i}
13Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith Jehovah God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
14In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah taketh shall come according to the families thereof; and the family which Jehovah shall take shall come by households; and the household which Jehovah shall take shall come man by man.
15And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire. {i}he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought wickedness in Israel{/i}.
16So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:
17and he brought the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zarhites: and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:
18and he brought his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.
19And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah God of Israel, and make confession unto Him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.
20And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against Jehovah God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:
21When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
22So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.
23And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before Jehovah.
24And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.
25And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.
26And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So Jehovah turned from the fierceness of His anger. {i}Therefore the name of that place was called, The Valley of Achor, to this day.{/i}
1{i}And Jehovah said to Joshua{/i}, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land.
2{i}And thou shalt do to Ai and to its king as thou didst to Jericho and to its king; only, the spoil thereof and the cattle thereof shall ye take as prey for yourselves{/i}. Lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.
3So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.
4And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:
5And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,
6(for they will come out after us,) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.
7Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for Jehovah your God will deliver it into your hand.
8And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of Jehovah shall ye do. {i}See, I have commanded you{/i}.
9Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.
10And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.
11And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.
12And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Beth-el and Ai, on the west side of the city.
13And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.
14And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle; he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.
15And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.
16And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.
17And there was not a man left in Ai or Beth-el, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.
18And the Lord said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.
19And the ambush arose quickly {i}from their place, and they ran when he stretched out his hand, and came into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.{/i}
20{i}And the men of Ai turned and saw, and behold, the smoke of the city went up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way; and the people that fled to the wilderness turned upon the pursuers.{/i}
21{i}When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city went up, they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.{/i}
22{i}And the others went out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side; and they smote them, until they let none of them escape or flee away.{/i}
23{i}And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.{/i}
24And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.
25And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.
26For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.
27Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of Jehovah which he commanded Joshua.
28{i}And Joshua burned Ai, and made it an everlasting heap of desolation to this day.{/i}
29And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcass down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.
30Then Joshua, built an altar unto Jehovah, God of Israel, in mount Ebal,
31as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto Jehovah, and sacrificed peace offerings.
32And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, {i}which he had written before the children of Israel.{/i}
33And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded before, {i}that they should bless the people of Israel{/i}.
34And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.
35There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.
1It came to pass when all the kings that were on this side Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and in all the coasts of the great sea over against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, heard thereof;
2that they gathered themselves together to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
3{i}And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,{/i}
4{i}then they also acted with craft, and they went prepared as on a journey, and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine-flasks, old and rent and tied up;{/i}
5{i}and old and patched sandals upon their feet, and old garments upon them; and all the bread of their provision was dry and mouldy.{/i}
6{i}And t{/i}hey went to Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, and said unto him and to the men of Israel, We be come from a far country. Now therefore make ye a league with us.
7And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us, and how shall we make a league with you?
8{i}And{/i} they said {i}unto Joshua{/i}, We are thy servants. {i}And Joshua said to them{/i}, Who are you, and from whence come ye?
9{i}And{/i} they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come, because of the name of Jehovah thy God. We have heard the fame of him and all that he did in Egypt,
10and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth.
11Wherefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take victuals with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants: therefore now make ye a league with us.
12This our bread we took hot for our provision out of our houses on the day we came forth to go unto you, but now, behold, it is dry, and it is moldy.
13And these bottles of wine, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they be rent: and these our garments and our shoes are become old by reason of the very long journey.
14And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of God.
15And Joshua made peace with them, and made a league with them to let them live, and the princes of the congregation sware unto them.
16{i}And it came to pass at the end of three days after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbours, and that they dwelt in their midst.{/i}
17{i}And the children of Israel journeyed, and came to their cities on the third day; and their cities were Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-jearim.{/i}
18{i}And the children of Israel did not smite them, because the princes of the assembly had sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel. Then all the assembly murmured against the princes.{/i}
19{i}And all the princes said to all the assembly, We have sworn unto them by Jehovah the God of Israel, and now we may not touch them.{/i}
20{i}This we will do to them, and let them live, lest wrath come upon us, because of the oath which we swore unto them.{/i}
21{i}And the princes said to them, Let them live. And they were hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the assembly; as the princes had said to them.{/i}
22{i}And Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; whereas ye dwell in our midst?{/i}
23{i}And now ye are cursed, and ye shall never cease to be bondmen, and hewers of wood, and drawers of water for the house of my God.{/i}
24{i}And they answered Joshua and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants how that Jehovah thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we feared greatly for our lives because of you, and did this thing.{/i}
25{i}And now behold, we are in thy hand: as it is good and right in thine eyes to do to us, do.{/i}
26{i}And he did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, and they did not slay them.{/i}
27{i}And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the assembly, and for the altar of Jehovah, to this day, in the place which he should choose.{/i}
1Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
2that they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty.
3{i}And Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, and to Piream king of Jarmuth, and to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying{/i},
4Come up unto me and help me, that we may smite Gibeon. {i}for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.{/i}
5{i}And the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and they encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.{/i}
6{i}And{/i} the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, Slack not thy hand from thy servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us.
7So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valour.
8And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Fear them not; for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.
9Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
10And Jehovah discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Beth-horon, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.
11And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Beth-horon, that Jehovah cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died; they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.
12Then spake Joshua to Jehovah in the day when Jehovah delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel,{HR}Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon;{HR}And thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies.
14{i}And there was no day like that before it or after it, that Jehovah hearkened to the voice of a man; for Jehovah fought for Israel.{/i}
15{i}And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp, to Gilgal.{/i}
16{i}And these five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.{/i}
17{i}And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings have been found, hid in the cave at Makkedah.{/i}
18{i}And Joshua said, Roll great stones before the mouth of the cave, and set men before it to keep them.{/i}
19{i}And ye, stay not, pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities; for Jehovah your God has given them into your hand.{/i}
20{i}And it came to pass when Joshua and the children of Israel had ended smiting them with a very great slaughter, until they were consumed, that the remnant which remained of them entered into fortified cities;{/i}
21{i}and all the people returned to the camp to Joshua, at Makkedah, in peace; none moved his tongue against the children of Israel.{/i}
22{i}And Joshua said, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring forth to me those five kings out of the cave.{/i}
23{i}And they did so, and brought forth to him those five kings out of the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.{/i}
24{i}And it came to pass when they had brought forth those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called to all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, Come forward, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came forward and put their feet on their necks.{/i}
25{i}And Joshua said to them, Fear not, neither be dismayed; be strong and courageous, for thus will Jehovah do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.{/i}
26{i}And afterwards Joshua smote them, and put them to death, and hanged them on five trees; and they were hanging upon the trees until the evening.{/i}
27{i}And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave where they had been hid, and laid great stones before the cave's mouth, which remain to this very day.{/i}
28{i}And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, him and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed; he let none remain; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.{/i}
29{i}And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.{/i}
30{i}And Jehovah gave it also and the king thereof into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it: and he did to the king thereof as he had done to the king of Jericho.{/i}
31{i}And Joshua passed, and all Israel with him, from Libnah to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.{/i}
32{i}And Jehovah gave Lachish into the hand of Israel; and they took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he had done to Libnah.{/i}
33{i}Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.{/i}
34{i}And Joshua, and all Israel with him, passed from Lachish to Eglon; and they encamped against it, and fought against it.{/i}
35{i}And they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and all the souls that were therein he utterly destroyed on that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.{/i}
36{i}And Joshua went up, and all Israel with him, from Eglon to Hebron; and they fought against it.{/i}
37{i}And they took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and all the souls that were therein: he let none remain, according to all that he had done to Eglon; and he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls that were therein.{/i}
38{i}And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir; and fought against it.{/i}
39{i}And he took it, and the king thereof, and all the cities thereof, and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: as he had done to Hebron, and as he had done to Libnah, and to the king thereof, so he did to Debir and to the king thereof.{/i}
40{i}And Joshua smote the whole country, the mountain, and the south, and the lowland, and the hill-slopes, and all their kings: he let none remain, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Jehovah the God of Israel had commanded.{/i}
41{i}And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even to Gazah, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon;{/i}
42And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Jehovah God of Israel fought for Israel.
43And Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, unto the camp to Gilgal.
1And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor had heard those things, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
2and to the kings that were on the north of the mountains, and of the plains south of Chinneroth, and in the valley, and in the borders of Dor on the west,
3and to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and to the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the mountains, and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.
4And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.
5And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.
6And Jehovah said unto Joshua, be not afraid because of them for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.
7So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.
8And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.
9And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he houghed their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.
10{i}And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword; for Hazor was in times past the head of all those kingdoms.{/i}
11{i}And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, destroying them utterly: there was not any left to breathe; and he burned Hazor with fire.{/i}
12{i}And all the cities of those kings and all their kings did Joshua take; and he smote them with the edge of the sword, destroying them utterly, as Moses the servant of Jehovah had commanded.{/i}
13{i}Only, all the cities that stood still upon their hills Israel did not burn, save Hazor alone, which Joshua burned.{/i}
14{i}And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle the children of Israel took as prey to themselves; only, they smote all the men with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them: they left none that breathed.{/i}
15As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.
16So Joshua took all that land, the hills, and all the south country, and all the land of Goshen, and the valley, and the plain, and the mountain of Israel, and the valley of the same;
17even from the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and slew them.
18Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: all other they took in battle.
20For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly, and that they might have no favour, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.
21And at that time came Joshua, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.
22There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.
23So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
1{i}And these are the kings of the land, whom the children of Israel smote, and of whose land they took possession across the Jordan, toward the sun-rising, from the river Arnon to mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east:{/i}
2{i}Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the ravine, and over half Gilead, as far as the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon;{/i}
3{i}and the plain as far as the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and as far as the sea of the plain, the salt sea, on the east, toward Beth-jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah;{/i}
4{i}and the territory of Og the king of Bashan, of the residue of the giants, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei,{/i}
5{i}and ruled over mount Hermon, and over Salcah, and over all Bashan, as far as the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and over half Gilead as far as the border of Sihon the king of Heshbon.{/i}
6{i}Moses the servant of Jehovah and the children of Israel smote them, and Moses the servant of Jehovah gave it for a possession to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh.{/i}
7{i}And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side the Jordan on the west, from Baal-Gad in the valley of Lebanon as far as the smooth mountain, which rises toward Seir. And Joshua gave it to the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions,{/i}
8{i}in the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the plain, and on the hill-slopes, and in the wilderness, and in the south: the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites:{/i}
9{i}The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one;{/i}
10{i}the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one;{/i}
11{i}the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;{/i}
12{i}the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one;{/i}
13{i}the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one;{/i}
14{i}the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one;{/i}
15{i}the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;{/i}
16{i}the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one;{/i}
17{i}the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one;{/i}
18{i}the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one;{/i}
19{i}the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;{/i}
20{i}the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one;{/i}
21{i}the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one;{/i}
22{i}the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam on Carmel, one;{/i}
23{i}the king of Dor in the upland of Dor, one; the king of Goim, at Gilgal, one;{/i}
24{i}the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.{/i}
1{i}And Joshua was old, advanced in age, and Jehovah said to him{/i}, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.
2{i}This is the land that yet remaineth:{/i} all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,
3from Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites:
4from the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:
5and the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.
6All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
7Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half tribe of Manasseh.
8{i}with him the Reubenites and the Gadites have received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them:{/i}
9{i}from Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the ravine, and all the plateau of Medeba to Dibon,{/i}
10{i}and all the cities of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who reigned at Heshbon, to the border of the children of Ammon;{/i}
11{i}and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and the whole of Bashan to Salcah;{/i}
12{i}all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, who remained of the residue of the giants; and Moses smote them and dispossessed them.{/i}
13{i}But the children of Israel did not dispossess the Geshurites nor the Maachathites; but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites to this day.{/i}
14{i}Only to the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance: the offerings by fire of Jehovah the God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said to them.{/i}
15{i}And Moses gave a portion to the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families.{/i}
16{i}And their territory was from Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the ravine, and all the plateau by Medeba;{/i}
17{i}Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plateau, Dibon, and Bamoth-Baal, and Beth-Baal-meon,{/i}
18{i}And Jahzah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,{/i}
19{i}and Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mountain of the vale,{/i}
20{i}and Beth-Peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth;{/i}
21{i}all the cities of the plateau, and the whole kingdom of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who reigned at Heshbon, whom Moses smote, him and the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the chiefs of Sihon dwelling in the land.{/i}
22{i}And Balaam the son of Beor, the diviner, did the children of Israel kill with the sword among them that were slain by them.{/i}
23{i}And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and its border. This is the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and their hamlets.{/i}
24{i}And Moses gave a portion to the tribe of Gad, to the children of Gad according to their families.{/i}
25{i}And their territory was Jaazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer which is before Rabbah;{/i}
26{i}and from Heshbon to Ramath-Mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;{/i}
27{i}and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-Nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon the king of Heshbon, the Jordan and its border, as far as the edge of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.{/i}
28{i}This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and their hamlets.{/i}
29{i}And Moses gave a portion to half the tribe of Manasseh; and for half the tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families:{/i}
30{i}their territory was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, the whole kingdom of Og the king of Bashan, and all the villages of Jair, which are in Bashan, sixty cities.{/i}
31{i}And half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, belonged to the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, to the one half of the children of Machir according to their families.{/i}
32{i}This is that which Moses allotted for inheritance in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan of Jericho, eastward.{/i}
33{i}But to the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: Jehovah the God of Israel is their inheritance, as he said to them.{/i}
1{i}And this is what the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, allotted for inheritance to them:{/i}
2{i}their inheritance was by lot, as Jehovah had commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and the half tribe.{/i}
3{i}For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he had given no inheritance among them.{/i}
4{i}For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and they gave no part to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.{/i}
5{i}As Jehovah had commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.{/i}
6{i}Then the children of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, Thou knowest the word that Jehovah spoke to Moses the man of God, concerning me and thee, in Kadesh-barnea.{/i}
7{i}Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to search out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.{/i}
8{i}And my brethren that had gone up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God.{/i}
9{i}And Moses swore on that day, saying, The land whereon thy feet have trodden shall assuredly be thine inheritance, and thy children's forever! for thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God.{/i}
10{i}And now behold, Jehovah has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years, since Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, when Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.{/i}
11{i}I am still this day strong, as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out and to come in.{/i}
12{i}And now give me this mountain, of which Jehovah spoke in that day{/i}; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be Jehovah will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as Jehovah said.
13And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
14{i}Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed Jehovah the God of Israel.{/i}
15{i}Now the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-Arba; the great man among the Anakim{/i}. And the land had rest from, war.
1{i}And the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was: to the border of Edom, the wilderness of Zin, southward, in the extreme south.{/i}
2{i}And their southern border was from the end of the salt sea, from the tongue that turns southward;{/i}
3{i}and it went out south of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed on to Zin, and went up on the south of Kadesh-barnea, and passed to Hezron, and went up toward Addar, and turned toward Karkaah,{/i}
4{i}and passed on to Azmon, and went out by the torrent of Egypt; and the border ended at the sea. That shall be your border southward.{/i}
5{i}—And the eastern border was the salt sea as far as the end of the Jordan. —And the border on the north side was from the tongue of the salt sea, at the end of the Jordan;{/i}
6{i}and the border went up toward Beth-hoglah, and passed north of Beth-Arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan, the son of Reuben;{/i}
7{i}and the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and turned northward to Gilgal, which is opposite to the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the torrent; and the border passed to the waters of En-shemesh, and ended at En-rogel;{/i}
8{i}and the border went up to the valley of the son of Hinnom, toward the south side of the Jebusite, that is, Jerusalem; and the border went up to the top of the mountain that is before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim northward;{/i}
9{i}and the border reached along from the top of the mountain toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out toward the cities of mount Ephron; and the border reached along to Baalah, that is, Kirjath-jearim;{/i}
10{i}and the border turned from Baalah westwards toward mount Seir, and passed toward the side of Har-jearim, that is, Chesalon, northwards, and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed Timnah.{/i}
11{i}And the border went out to the side of Ekron northwards, and the border reached along toward Shicron, and passed mount Baalah, and went toward Jabneel; and the border ended at the sea.{/i}
12{i}—And the west border is the great sea and its coast. This is the border of the children of Judah round about, according to their families.{/i}
13{i}And to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah according to the commandment of Jehovah to Joshua, the city of Arba, the father of Anak, that is, Hebron.{/i}
14{i}And thence Caleb dispossessed the three sons of Anak, Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, who were born of Anak.{/i}
15{i}And from there he went up against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.{/i}
16{i}And Caleb said, He that smites Kirjath-sepher and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter as wife.{/i}
17{i}And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.{/i}
18{i}And it came to pass as she came, that she urged him to ask of her father a field; and she sprang down from the ass. And Caleb said to her, What wouldest thou?{/i}
19{i}And she said, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a southern land; give me also springs of water. Then he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.{/i}
20{i}This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.{/i}
21{i}The cities at the extremity of the tribe of the children of Judah, toward the border of Edom in the south, were: Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur,{/i}
22{i}and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,{/i}
23{i}and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Jithnan,{/i}
24{i}Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,{/i}
25{i}and Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-Hezron, that is Hazor,{/i}
26{i}Amam, and Shema, and Molada,{/i}
27{i}and Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-Pelet,{/i}
28{i}and Hazar-Shual, and Beer-sheba, and Biziothiah;{/i}
29{i}Baalah, and Ijim, and Ezem,{/i}
30{i}and Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah,{/i}
31{i}and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansanna,{/i}
32{i}and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities twenty-nine, and their hamlets.{/i}
33{i}—In the lowland: Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah,{/i}
34{i}and Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tappuah and Enam,{/i}
35{i}Jarmuth and Adullam, Sochoh and Azekah,{/i}
36{i}and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim: fourteen cities and their hamlets.{/i}
37{i}Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-Gad,{/i}
38{i}and Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel,{/i}
39{i}Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,{/i}
40{i}and Cabbon, and Lahmas, and Chithlish,{/i}
41{i}and Gederoth, Beth-Dagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah: sixteen cities and their hamlets.{/i}
42{i}Libna, and Ether, and Ashan,{/i}
43{i}and Jiphthah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,{/i}
44{i}and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities and their hamlets.{/i}
45{i}Ekron and its dependent villages and its hamlets.{/i}
46{i}From Ekron and westward all that are by the side of Ashdod, and their hamlets.{/i}
47{i}Ashdod, its dependent villages and its hamlets; Gazah, its dependent villages and its hamlets, as far as the torrent of Egypt, and the great sea and its coast.{/i}
48{i}—And in the hill-country: Shamir, and Jattir, and Sochoh,{/i}
49{i}and Dannah, and Kirjath-sannah, that is, Debir,{/i}
50{i}and Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,{/i}
51{i}and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh: eleven cities and their hamlets.{/i}
52{i}Arab, and Dumah, and Eshan,{/i}
53{i}and Janum, and Beth-Tappuah, and Aphekah,{/i}
54{i}and Humtah, and Kirjath-Arba, that is, Hebron, and Zior: nine cities and their hamlets.{/i}
55{i}Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Jutah,{/i}
56{i}and Jizreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah,{/i}
57{i}Kain, Gibeah and Timnah: ten cities and their hamlets.{/i}
58{i}Halhul, Beth-Zur, and Gedor,{/i}
59{i}and Maarath, and Beth-anoth, and Eltekon: six cities and their hamlets.{/i}
60{i}Kirjath-Baal, that is, Kirjath-jearim, and Rabbah: two cities and their hamlets.{/i}
61{i}—In the wilderness: Beth-Arabah, Middin, and Secacah,{/i}
62{i}and Nibshan, and Ir-Hammelah, and En-gedi: six cities and their hamlets.{/i}
63{i}But as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not dispossess them; and the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem to this day.{/i}
1{i}And the lot came forth for the children of Joseph from the Jordan of Jericho as far as the waters of Jericho eastwards, to the wilderness which goes up from Jericho to the hill-country of Bethel.{/i}
2{i}And the border went from Bethel to Luz, and passed to the border of the Archites to Ataroth,{/i}
3{i}and went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, as far as the border of the lower Beth-horon, and to Gezer; and ended at the sea.{/i}
4{i}And the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.{/i}
5{i}And the border of the children of Ephraim was according to their families; the border of their inheritance eastwards was Ataroth-Addar as far as the upper Beth-horon;{/i}
6{i}and the border went forth westwards to Micmethath on the north; and the border turned eastwards to Taanath-Shiloh, and passed by it eastwards to Janohah,{/i}
7{i}and went down from Janohah to Ataroth and Naarath, and touched upon Jericho, and went out to the Jordan.{/i}
8{i}From Tappuah the border went westwards to the torrent Kanah, and ended at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families,{/i}
9{i}with the cities that were set apart for the children of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities and their hamlets.{/i}
10{i}But they did not dispossess the Canaanites that dwelt at Gezer; and the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim to this day, and serve under tribute.{/i}
1{i}And the lot came to the tribe of Manasseh (for he was the firstborn of Joseph), to Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, for he was a man of war, and he had Gilead and Bashan.{/i}
2{i}There was also a portion for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these are the children of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the males, according to their families.{/i}
3{i}And Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.{/i}
4{i}And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. And he gave them according to the commandment of Jehovah an inheritance among the brethren of their father.{/i}
5{i}And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which are beyond the Jordan.{/i}
6{i}For the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons; and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead.{/i}
7{i}And the territory of Manasseh was from Asher to Micmethath, which is before Shechem, and the border went on the right hand toward the inhabitants of En-Tappuah.{/i}
8{i}Manasseh had the land of Tappuah; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.{/i}
9{i}And the border descended to the torrent Kanah, south of the torrent. These cities were Ephraim's among the cities of Manasseh. And the territory of Manasseh was on the north side of the torrent, and ended at the sea.{/i}
10{i}Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border. And they touched upon Asher on the north, and upon Issachar on the east.{/i}
11{i}And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher, Beth-shean and its dependent villages, and Ibleam and its dependent villages, and the inhabitants of Dor and its dependent villages, and the inhabitants of En-Dor and its dependent villages, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its dependent villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its dependent villages, the three hilly regions.{/i}
12{i}But the children of Manasseh could not dispossess the inhabitants of those cities; and the Canaanites would dwell in that land.{/i}
13And it came to pass, when the Israelites were waxing strong, they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.
14{i}And the children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying{/i}, Why hast thou given me one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as Jehovah hath blessed me hitherto?
15{i}And Joshua said unto them, If thou art a great people, then get thee up to the wood, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for thee.{/i}
16{i}And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country will not be enough for us; and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, those that are of Beth-shean and its dependent villages, and those that are in the valley of Jizreel.{/i}
17{i}And Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying{/i}, Thou art a great people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only:
18but the mountain shall be thine, {i}as it is a wood, thou shalt cut it down, and its outgoings shall be thine; for thou shalt dispossess the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots; for they are powerful.{/i}
1{i}And the whole assembly of the children of Israel gathered together at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there; and the land was subdued before them.{/i}
2{i}And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes whose inheritance had not been distributed to them.{/i}
3And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the Jehovah God of your fathers hath given you?
4Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.
5And they shall divide into seven parts; Judah shall abide in their coast on the south, and the house of Joseph shall abide in their coasts on the north.
6{i}And{/i} ye shall therefore describe the land into seven parts, and bring the description hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before Jehovah our God.
7But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of Jehovah is their inheritance: and Gad, and Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh, have received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them.
8{i}And the men arose and went away. And Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me, and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah in Shiloh.{/i}
9{i}And the men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven portions, in a book, and they came to Joshua, to the camp at Shiloh.{/i}
10And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before Jehovah: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.
11{i}And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their families. And the territory of their lot came forth between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.{/i}
12{i}And their border on the north side was from the Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up to the mountain westward; and ended at the wilderness of Beth-Aven;{/i}
13{i}and the border passed on from thence toward Luz, to the south side of Luz, which is Bethel: and the border went down to Ataroth-Addar, near the hill that is on the south of the lower Beth-horon.{/i}
14{i}—And the border reached along and turned on the west side, southward from the hill that is before Beth-horon southward; and ended at Kirjath-Baal, which is Kirjath-jearim, a city of the children of Judah: this is the west side.{/i}
15{i}—And the south side was from the extreme end of Kirjath-jearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah.{/i}
16{i}And the border went down to the end of the mountain that is before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the valley of Rephaim on the north, and went down the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusite on the south, and went down to En-rogel;{/i}
17{i}and it reached along on the north, and went forth to En-shemesh, and went forth towards Geliloth, which is opposite to the ascent of Adummim, and went down to the stone of Bohan, the son of Reuben,{/i}
